Bailey Net90, Infi90

I have an old Bailey Net90, Infi90 system I am trying to integrate. How do we communicate with these racks? We have the manuals and still cannot find how to communicate via PC.

I converted an old Net90 to Conductor a few years ago and you won't find anything in the DCS manuals to tell you how to interface with a pc. You will need to buy some custom software drivers to interface I assume you will be using a new HMI there are a couple that have drivers that will talk to Net90/Infi90. Citect, Wonderware, IFix all have there own Bailey Net90/Infi90 drivers. Also ABB still sells Conductor which is a pc based HMI that was built for Net90/Infi90 systems back before ABB gobbled up whoever gobbled up Bailey.

You need either a CIU (Computer Interface Unit) which is made up of a set of 3 cards or a CPM (Comms Port Module).

You also need a software package that Bailey (now ABB) supply called SCAD.

Other people can provide software - try Op-tec.

Also try G Michaels Consulting Ltd at www.gmcl.com.

It won't be cheap though!

I beleive there are also OPC servers for the Bailey. Take a look at Kepware and Matrikon, we have looked into interfacing to an Infi90 and the preference was to use OPC servers.

To communicate to the bailey system there are two parts. First for programming the logic, you need an EWS (engineering work station running Bailey CAD software). This you would need to purchase from Bailey (Now ABB) or Opscon in Canada makes a replacement EWS. Second for control interfacing you will need an HMI package. I like using Citect the Bailey Driver doesn't cost extra and is easy to set up. Our company supports Bailey systems and could direct you further in what you may need. You can contact them at [email protected] or 724-334-8856.

What are you trying to do? If you are looking for an HMI, ABB still provides these. If you are just looking for an interface to another there are multiple ways of accomplishing this either by custom FDIs or OPC. If you are trying to change the logic you would need a piece of software from ABB. You have to remeber this is all proprietary communications on the communications ring. Your best bet is to call their tech support department they will help you.

John,

There are a few different types of hardware available to communicate to a Bailey system.

Are you trying to connect to a single PCU or an Infinet?

Send me an email with your contact information and I'll help you out.

Our company supplies a replacement product for talking with and programming the modules contained within the Infi-90 PCU Cabinets. Our product, RCAD 3.1, provides a complete solution for clients interested in programming and verifying their function block documentation. Users can compile, cross reference, and verify their documentation as well as communicate with the modules for preventative maintenance purposes and engineering new programming logic. How you communicate with Infi90/Net90 equipment is going to depend on what you need to accomplish. ABB (who acquired Bailey some time ago) actively supports, and develops new products for, the Symphony (Infi90/Net90) control system, particularly for migration to it's new control system.

If you need console functionality, the older Conductor console is still available, but the current Process Portal console, part of ABB's IndustrialIT system, has integration with not just ABB's 800M controller, but also with ABB's legacy systems, including Infi90/Net90.

OPC connectivity to the controllers is available via ABB's OPC Data Link.

Tools for configuration of the Infi90 controllers (e.g. MFPs) continue to be developed; the current software is Composer 4.1.

Thanks for the plug, Martin. I should clarify some things:

1. Our DBDOC product is not applicable here. We use the INFI-90 CIU for communication, including ICT03. Our product documents the INFI-90 system, but is not a console or configuration replacement.
2. DBDOC is inexpensive compared with all the other things posted here. It does a unique job for that low price.

To program the controller:

A. in the N90 with Module Bus it used to have the NSPM module that shall provide the serial port to PC, with the software call "CLS" (in house Bailey's software) just one Floppy then you could config and monitor the logic in the controller.

B. Infi90 if there are available IMSPM then this card shall possible to provide serial port to PC (while communicate with controler on Controls way... redundant higher speed of "module bus"), unless otherwise you shall need CIU (computer interface unit), with CIU there is possible to communicate with CLS. (TALK 90 with reside in CIU, You may need to set up PC to be dump terminal to communicate with CIU (CIU's Dip switch setting is required).)

But this allow to read/write data to controller it won't allow to configure controller (MFP).

To program MFP you shall need Software to program it try to find CLS/EWS/Composer SW at your site.

Hope this may help, try it carefully with off line MFP unless may effect controls of process.

I have an existing Conductor NT HMI connected to a Net90 system - is there a simple relatively inexpensive way to get the data out to and SQL database.

I have been reading a manual which references @aGlance - which I thought was dead long ago ...

There is also reference to OLE and DDE interfaces - is the OLE interface built in? Is DDE the only way to get data out ... is there a manual which references the syntax for any of the above?

I have just bought a complete bailey net 90 and foxboro system. Yes I know they are old, but they are in perfect shape and ran the entire plant before I bought it. Is there any resale for such a complete and kept system?
