Require HMI for -40C to +50C Operating Temperature

We require an HMI (touch screen computer), for extreme operating temperatures of -40 deg C to +50 deg C. Can anyone recommend from where to get this?

Given that this is a Human Machine Interface (HMI) and humans cannot survive in these extreme conditions, what environment are you putting these electronics into?

You do realize that a human will not be able to use these!

-40 C is awfully cold. I believe you will have to have a heater to bring the temperature up, preferably to 1 or 2 C.

Another option could be a projector in a warm area, projecting in to the cold area if necessary. That, of course, doesn't give you the ability to send inputs back. Even a mouse and keyboard isn't going to last very long at that temperature, but mice are cheap enough that you could keep replacing them.

One other point; how fast are you going between those extremes? If it's just seasonal, no problem. If you're heating and cooling an area as part of the process, that gives you a whole new world of problems.

Good luck!

I have not used them personally, but Beijer Electronics' QSI line (like the QTERM-A12) may get you close. I think they are Class I, Div 2 NEMA 4X with an operating temperature listing of -30 to 70 Deg C. Came across them when we were looking at possible extreme environment application.

Bruce said, "humans cannot survive in these extreme conditions," but I (slightly) disagree. I have personally been in -40C, albeit not for very long and with quite a bit of winter gear. I don't think I've ever been in 50C, but I've been in 45C, and there are places in Southwest United States (e.g. Arizona) that can hit 50C in the summer. Rather amusingly, Arizona's lowest recorded temperature is -40C, and it's highest is about 53C, and I would argue that Arizona is survivable. :)

Exposure to those temperatures could kill you, of course. You won't last long at -40C without protection, and you won't last long without water at 50C. But with care you can stay in those temperatures indefinitely.

There is Uticor by AVG Automation that will suite you...They are rated for -20 C to 60 C with class 1, div 2, NEMA 4X.

I have used them...they are very good...in fact now i only use them as they come with 4 yrs warranty as well and can communicate with any PLC over modbus, ethernet, profibus etc. AVG launched them for Indian subcontinent (where plant temperature reaches 45 - 50 C in summers)
