Dick Morley passed away this evening after a long battle with life. His knees gave out on him but he still fought the good fight.

A debt of gratitude is owed to the heroes of our industry.
Odo Struger as well...

RIP Dickie

One of the bullet points in the Manufacturing Automation link is "Rugged".

The anecdote that always stuck with me was Morley's recollection of the on-site demonstration of their PLC. While lugging the heavy carrying case up a stairwell to get to wherever the test location was, the case slipped and fell down several stairs to a landing. The Bedford/Modicon crew just shrugged it off. When they got to test site, they hooked it up, it ran without a hiccup because one of the design criterion was "rugged". Those attending the demo took note of the stairwell crash and the subsequent successful trial which played a major part in its acceptance.

Out of the Barn is one of my favorites.....his many "stories" still ring as true today as when they were written.

I will definitely miss my phone conversations with Dick, he always intrigued me and I loved his simplicity.
