PLC to PC Through RS232

I am a novice in this field, but would greatly appreciate any pointers to solve a problem with an old motion picture/ film scanner.

It has a PLC which works to control the scanner locally or remotely through RS232. The maker Quantel went into administration 20 years ago, so no available PC software now.

Do I try to copy the eprom of the chip, or can I find software that will copy the PLC functions so the PLC's keyboard function appears on my PC to control it from there, i.e. remotely?

Can I control the scanner through an Arduino plugin tool?

Sorry for my ignorance on these technical matters

Best wishes,
Patrick

All kinds of things are POSSIBLE. Whether it is practical is something else.

There is no way to give you an answer to any of your questions given the very limited information you have supplied.

If it is just a matter of finding a copy of the PC software there are forums for film buffs that might be a better option. Someone might even be able to point you to a copy. You might need an ancient PC to run it on
though.

These people might be able to help you. They seem to have at least some
support for Quantel products.
