I am a student and am trying to get a barcode scanner that is DeviceNet compatible. Our process is to try to sort boxes by barcode and divert them to other conveyors. We will be using DeviceNet to control the whole system. We have almost everything donated except for a scanner. We have some old Accusort model 70L barcode scanners that the company does not support anymore. We are only five students and are not willing to fork over $2500 for a new one. The
scanning distance will vary from 2" to 18". The speed of the conveyor will be apx. 100 fps. Does anybody know where I can get a inexpensive one or one donated? Any help would be appreciated.

 

Check out the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA) at "www.odva.org":http://www.odva.org . There is quite a few barcode vendors that manufacter equipment for DeviceNet. Try directly talking with the manufacturer about free or loaner equipment. Also, your local distributor may have some 'older' demo units that they would be willing to part with for a small price. We have successfully used RS-232 output bar code readers on DeviceNet in sorting applications. There is a RS-232 to DeviceNet gateway made
