Can anybody help me to make a simple RS232/ProfiBus DP converter?
I know that Hilscher and Bihl-Wiedemann sell a kind of, but I considerate the opportunity to exercise on that.
Thanks for any help.
Try SIEMENS IM183-1 with PROFIBUS ASIC and use the other port as RS-232.
I guess there will be other cards, this is the one I know.
If you want to do it quickly use ASIC otherwise you will have to develop PROFIBUS protocol yourself.
Any way you try to implement a RS-232 to Profibus converter, you will have to include a Profibus ASIC chip in your desing. The design will also have to include a RS232 to RS-485 conversion.
Look at www.profibus.com for details on the technology required.
Hope this helps,
If you want to buy there are a lot on the market. If you want to make one, first of all you need a controller (i.e. ATMEL) with UART and a 232/485 chip converter and to write the communication protocol in your controller implementing just few profibus functions. Hope this help.
I know of a really cost effective converter. Most any RS232 to RS422/485 converter will work. The following web site has one for $124.95 US.
Hope this helps
Absolutely, Profibus is actually Siemens (et al.) speak for RS485, so any standard 232 to 485 converter will do the trick for you.
However, if you need to use Profibus PA, then you have a whole load of intrinsically safe issues to deal with, so talk to someone in the know, such as Pepperl & Fuchs.
