I am making a proximity sensor for my GCSE project. I need suggestions on how to do this but I prefer it if it is simple.

you can use either an ldr or a photo diode or photo transistor to have a non-contact proximity sensor. other simple way would be to use a magnetic switch. of course it all depends on your application.
