MK V Communication
Communications systems and equipment. topic

Would any one help in finding out how and where communication traffic of stage link when connected with local and remote HMI, and also when MkV is interfaced with Foxboro DCS through GE GSM protocol? What kind of communication traffic should we look for at HMI and Foxboro DCS? What parameters should be noted from HMI for identifying the traffic?

Thanks in advance.

The information is not enough. You can use ARCWHO to check the communication between the local and romote HMI to Mk V.

RVSS,

In what context you asked this information? Do you have any issues with HMI freezing and C processor hanging? I am also looking for the same info how can I measure the traffic b/w MarkV and HMI and also Between Foxboro DCS.

Thanks.

The GSM is via Ethernet, so there are usually communication applications which can provide some detail about Ethernet comms, including Task Manager's Network Performance tab.

The StageLink communication between the HMIs and the Mark V has no such application or method for viewing comms....

There are some ARCnet snoop programs around, but one would have to have an ARCnet card and driver to connect to the StageLink in order to be able to observe the information. And, then because it's a proprietary protocol used on the StageLink there is no way to see what information is being communicated.

Stagelink can be monitored on your HMI through diagnostic counters.

GSM has published packet frame sizing and can be monitored through ethernet snooping.

If you are trying to tear apart a stagelink packet, you are on your own!

Hi CTTech

Could u pls elaborate a lil bit on your post above

1. monitoring stagelink process/traffic via diagnostic counters. Which parameters in diag counters ??

2. to check GSM process.. so we do ethernet snooping from GE HMI or from other system which receive data from GE HMI ?

Dear CSA,

Our current Mark V HMI runs under classic Windows NT 4.0. I doubt it has this Network Performance thingy.
