In some specs I came across with requirement of duplex thermocouple. Based on the application I doubt that it is related to dual sensor. By investigating I came across with another terminology, which is duplex insulated thermocouple wire. I am not sure what exactly that terminology implies and if there is any specific application for it.

We use duplex TC's from time to time. Duplex means 2 separate TC's inside of a probe type TC. Two are used in case one of them fails.

 

Yes, duplex wire is similar to duplex elements. Duplex wire has two pairs of T/C wire for connection to two T/C elements.
