Dear all,
i have a question concerning the IP 266 module (S5 system). The main problem is that when i try to come online through COM 266 it gives me an error F53 which states that " either the cable isn't connected or there is no power supply" although i did the following

hi , actually the cable that i am using is a PG cable and it works fine with the PLC. However, i don't know why it gives me such an error.

1) I connected the IP 266 card to the bus interface with a 24 V power supply
2) i attached the cable from the PG to the positioning module
3) i started the COM 266
4) i Pressed F2 to get online

is any of these steps wrong ? or there is something missing and what maybe else producing this error

i really appreciate anyone who can help me with this issue

If I recall correctly, the IP266 needs a different programming cable. There are two types of S5 programming cable. One draws power from the programming port, and the second needs a separate power supply. The power is needed to drive the RS-232 to current-loop converter electronics.

The CPU has a pin which supplies power to the programming cable. Many of the I/O modules do not. If Siemens doesn't have them anymore, then I'm not sure who would sell them now. B&B Electronics used to, but I don't know if they have them anymore.

If you look at http://www.runmode.com you will find a schematic you can download for making your own.
