have an application where an industry needs to transmit motor rpm signal to a pc in the control room. anyone done something similar. need to know what components to use

no, but i can use an inductive pick up sensor.

any other ideas?

 

The following components should be used:

1) Rpm sensor:

2) IC UFDC-1. It measures rpm directly and send results to PC (RS232 or USB):

you can uses sensorless control method.. What's the motor type you use?

 

Sukhi you can use this sensor but u have that teething arrangement for the sensor to work. The best idea is to fabricate a notch in the shaft of the motor install a magnetic pickup in the motor. For display you have two options

1. Tailor made display which are provided by the sensor vendor. You have to do nothing, install display in control room, 24VDC supply and connect field cable and configure it. Not a big deal.

2. Second is to use frequency to current converter P&F or MTL make. Get 4-20 mA signal connect it whereever you want.

But first of all look out for that notch on the shaft of the motor.
