What are the changes associated with compressor surge. Which parameters will be affected by compressor surge? What are the present methods being implemented to provide surge protection?

compressor surge occur when the discharge air flow from the compressor become minimum and the system air pressure becomes greater than or equal compressor outlet press which may cause a back pressure to compressor stages.

to control that and protect the compressor there are many ways according to the type of the compressor like:

if it a axial flow compressor so we have to control surge using the inlet guide vents by sensing the discharge temp and pressure.
if the compressor centrifugal one drived be electrical motor we have to trigger the compressor to surge duo to ampere of that motor and by sensing the air system pressure and compressor discharge pressure if matching the machine have been surged also.
