Redundant in this sense implies that there is a back up server or more then one server. However a redundant server may not be available until manually activated or until the main server goes offline.

Dual redundant can imply two servers installed such that the failure of one server will not cause a loss of service. However it is best to refer to the documentation on your system to determine what the term dual redundant server means.

Some automation systems can utilize triple redundancy or even quadruple redundancy.

Hope this helps.

Yes, the system documentation is important to put the term into context.

There is another possibility as well. You mention a backup server (n+1). You also mention two servers to prevent loss of service. There are two ways that the dual redundant server could be designed.

1. There are two servers that backup the primary server (n+2). If the primary server fails and one backup fails, there is still one backup remaining. This is a dynamic solution.

2. There is one primary server, one primary backup, and one backup to the backup. The second backup only comes online if the primary backup fails. This solution is more limited, requiring failure in a linear fashion.

Your product associate may help you identify a cost and value difference between these two solutions.

Can I say The Duplex mode in Temperature Transmitter for measuring Temperature also serves as Dual Redundant. Is this correct example? since both the sensor input for the Tx are always be on line. if one fails, means another sensor will always shows temperature reading.
