Hello,

We have 6B gas turbine with Supplementary firing (OIL) in service less oil flow gives more smoke at HRSH Exhaust than expected. Gas turbine kept on IGV Temp. control ON with IGV 56 degree Opening with exhaust 540 deg c & Load 22 MW. Liquid fuel HSD Standard combustor. Ambient temperature 25 deg c.

Need suggestion for the better operation to reduce the black smoke at HRSG Exhaust. In HRSG 10 Burners running 5 Each side. Augmentary Air fan IGV 100% open.

Thanks

Hello,

All of the HRSGs with supplemental firing that I've had the pleasure of working on were not designed to be supplementally fired when the gas turbine was at part load with the IGVs at minimum operating position.

What does the HRSG manufacturer, and the supplemental burner manufacturer, say about when the supplemental burners should be operated?

Supplemental firing is typically meant to be "supplemental" to maximum GT exhaust temperature and exhaust flow with the IGVs full open. When there's a need to make more steam than can be made with the GT at maximum exhaust flow and temperature--which is with the IGVs full open at Base Load.
