The industry I work in has two Gas Turbine Generators rated for 32 MVA, 6.6 KV at 0.9 pf connected in parallel. Currently they are running at 0.86 pf.

If we improve the power factor to 0.91-0.92 for the same load, how much fuel consumption will be improved by the turbine?

Will the decrease in Reactive Power decrease the torque needed by the Generator?

Yes of course, when u decrease the reactive power, there will be decrease in torque needed by generator.

the power factor which u mentioned is leading pf or lagging pf...?

If its lagging pf, then its not advisable to reduce reactive power.

If its leading pf, there will not be any problem in reducing reactive power...but i am sure your machine must be in lagging side..

Then at this case, you should concentrate to increase the reactive power to make the power factor to 0.91..

For increasing the reactive power, you need to increase the excitation current delivering to rotor..just raise the tapping of input transformer to achieve it.
