We have recently completed a turbine and generator overhaul that included a GE compressor upgrade. During start up the turbine vibration started to increase at 3600 rpm. Will the unit require a balance shot to lower the vibration? Where will the balance weight be installed? I have heard it is done in the #2 turbine bearing area.

 

What type of compressor upgrade was done during the overhaul? .04?.05? During a recommissioning normally there is a Bently Nevada tech standing by onsite or on System 1 interface.

Balance shot is recommended by the BN techs. Weights are inserted through slots on the front of the compressor behind the keyphasor instruments.

Was there vibration issues before the upgrades? When the generator was removed did you send it out to get balanced? Where are the vibration issues occurring? How high are the vibrations?
