I'm curious if anyone out there has tried IOLink. I've just used it for the first time, and so far I absolutely adore it. I vastly prefer sending and getting DATA, rather than a 4-20mA signal. Getting power and data in 3 wires is also nice.
Note that IOLink isn't perfect. It's a "bag of bits" protocol where you have to decode the data yourself. It's also the wrong endian for the platform I'm on. At the moment, there aren't a lot of devices out there, especially actuators.
