Barton 764 nuclear grade level transmitter

Recently, I came across an old nuclear grade Barton 764 level transmitter that had been replaced with a newer Rosemount analog transmitter.

During my inspection, I noticed that the sense lines had to be swapped because the Barton required the wet reference leg be connected to the HP side of the transmitter. The newer Rosemount transmitter had the wet reference leg connected to the lo side.

I am assuming (which is always risky) that there is some type of design anomaly with this old Barton transmitter but I am unclear as to what it is that requires a reference leg be tied to the HP side. All of the other transmitters that I have seen have the reference leg connected to the lo side of the transmitter.

If anyone can elaborate on this old type of transmitter, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.............:)
