Thermocouple testing

I am a final year engineering student. My project is measurement of heat flux from heliostat. For that i need to measure temperature on plate at various different points for which i am drilling holes in plate with termocouples inserted in it such that only probe of thermocouple will be exposed to solar radiations. With above arrangement i can have probe of thermocouple & plate surface in one plane & receiving same radiations. Now I want to test this method firstly before i use it for my project. So can anyone please help me with testing procedure (standard or non standard) of thermocouple?

Thinking you might want to drill blind holes in the plate so the probe doesn't show on the hot side and you're measuring the local temperature of the metal plate per se. If the probe is exposed to the solar radiation, and it has a different emissivity than the plate, it will end up at a different temperature than the same point on an undrilled plate would have.
