VFD and nominal RPM of motor

We acquired several variable frequency drives based on motors' nominal current. All went fine with most, but one of the motors' nominal RPM seems to be as low as 125 whereas in the VFD it is possible only to set it as low as 300. I haven't dared try what happens if I put it on with a higher RPM rate than it says on the motor's plate.

How critical is the nominal RPM setting for the functioning of the VFD and the motor? What exactly is the information used for by the VFD? And most importantly, do I need to get another VFD?

Thanks
