Control.com Goes Mobile

Hi all,
We've just launched a new series of sites specially formatted for use with mobile phones and similar-size devices: bigger fonts, bigger buttons, single-column design and simplified menu structure.

Next time you visit Control.com or one of our sub-communities using a mobile, you'll probably be asked if you want to switch over.

Alternatively, you go directly there using the following URLs:
http://m.control.com
http://m.modbus.control.com
http://m.motion.control.com
http://m.opc.control.com
http://m.safety.control.com

I hope this makes life easier for those of you who are frequently on the go.

Regards to all,

KenCrater,

Many a times I found myself struggling for reading control.com on my cellphone. Thank you for providing a mobile edition of the site.

As per my opinion, instead of using a different url for mobile site, control.com should use adaptive or responsive website template. Adaptive/Responsive template of a website adjusts itself according to the size of the display of the device on which the website is accessed. This eliminates the need for providing different urls for mobile and computer edition of the site.

An Android app can also be developed fairly easily.

SB

Thanks, SB, for your comments!

The site is currently designed using responsive design principles -- the domain name for the mobile site actually points to the same website. However, we decided, at least initially, to provide separate paths for our readers so they can make a conscious choice as to which site design they want to use. (Maybe this is a personal pet peeve, but I get annoyed with sites that force me into an abbreviated view because I happen to be on a mobile. Invariably, there is some function I want to perform that's only available on the "full" site, with no clear path to get there!)

That said, I think the web is still learning how to do responsive design right, and I'm certainly in "learning mode" too.

Thanks again,
Ken
