Purchasing a New HART Communicator

I work in power plant where we have lot of Rosemount sensor and ABB to be maintained and recalibrated, and we want to buy a hart communicator which on could you advice me to buy.

Thanks to every one.

I have a ProComSol Bluetooth HART modem (to keep my laptop as far away as possible from the sticky stuff), but it doesn't work with the new DrexelBrook transmitters that we have. DrexelBrook chose to go their own way and are not using PACTWare. No fault of the ProComSol.

The smart thing to do is to call both ABB and Rosemount and see what works with their devices. Otherwise any certified HART modem other than Bluetooth ones should work.

You also have to make sure that it will work with your operating system (Windows 7, whatever).

You say that you have a lot of sensors in your factory. You should probably consider a rack-based I/O system that will enable you to expand your sensor inputs as your needs grow/ change. I would recommend a rack system like the RU-87P4 from ICP-DAS USA.

With this you can connect a HART cartridge, like the I-87H17W, (http://www.icpdas-usa.com/i_87h17w.html) to read your Rosemount sensors and communicate your signal to your PLC via RS-485.

If you wish to communicate over greater distances, or have your HART signal sent to a remote location, you can look into a HART to Modbus TCP gateway.(http://www.icpdas-usa.com/hrt_711.html)

As mentioned, check with ABB to verify compatibility.

Make sure it supports both HART5 and HART7. Hosts that only support HART5 do not support HART7 devices.
