Generator Speed Governor Controller

Hi all

I got 4 identical 650KVA Gensets that uses ESD5500E as the speed controller. The device has a remote speed adjust input that comes as a potentiometer (Resistance), am using the DeepSea 8610 controllers for this job to synchronize the sets, this device has a analog output for the governor that provides 10 +- VDC, is there a way to convert this voltage signal to resistance in order to be able to connect it to the speed governor controller (ESD5500E) ?

Thanks in advance guys

Barbican,

The pot that is the remote speed adjust is likely driving a voltage that the speed controller is using as the speed reference. As you adjust the pot, the voltage across the pot changes. That voltage is normally used to determine the speed setpoint, not a direct resistance measurement.

So, it should be possible to get rid of the pot all together, and just apply a voltage to the controller because it is likely that the controller is not measuring resistance, but the voltage across the resistance. But, before you tear into anything, please do your due diligence to understand what voltage range is required and make sure you understand how the circuit is actually working.

The above statements are just a thought based on things I have worked with previously. Please verify on your own.

Hope that helps,
Nic
