Load and Load Sharing Problem

When generator on a shipboard plant is paralleled with other units this generator takes all the load and does not want to share load. Even when shedding load manually it will take it all back.

Then when a high consumer eg. air compressor plant starts up the generator cannot handle that load requirement and unit starts slowing down.

Plant engineers have replaced the governor (Woodward UG 8 dial type) with no affect on the problem. Can this problem be related to KVAR sharing or is this just governor set up problem?

I'm not a power gen guy but it sounds to me like the other units may not be set up correctly or for whatever reason are not loading as load increases. Plus, in a multiple generator application, don't you normally set constant load on all units but one and set that one in isoch to soak up load changes at the margin? Or does that not apply in this scenario?

macker,

To add to what glenmorangie is asking--when did this problem start? It's presumed all was working fine for some time, until.?.?.? What changed?

Is there some kind of PMS (Power Management System) for the generator-sets that controls the power of the droop units and lets the Isoch unit float?

Hi yo'all,

For paralleling and load sharing among 2 or more generators to a load or loads (but not to the grid), please browse www.cumminspower.com,
go to 05 Power Topic#9017. All technical analysis for your problem
are clearly explained.

Happy troubleshooting!

This problem was inherited by new crew. Old history is that governor was flushed and then problem was sorted out. Therefore when we test ran the gen set and the load problem was noticed the governor was exchanged.

The system have three synch units with droop regulation. PMS is a Siemens Simatic S5 and the three units each have a Selco type T4800 load sharer.

Have checked prime mover fuel side and alternator side. No problems found.

Suspect that perhaps Selco load sharer is the cause of our problem but on board can find no manual regarding set up or operation. Any info?

Hi

Are the load controllers connected together?

A single line diagram if available would be very helpful.

your problems is not related to speed governor or AVR. do not go away; its only on your selector switch in wrong position. JUST REVISED YOUR PANEL.
