Hi,

Does anyone know where to hire or buy tooling for rotor removal on GE Frame 6B gas turbine? And approx cost?

thanks

davidmcc,

Most companies who perform the work will come with their own tooling.

Depending on the age of the machine and who provided it, the required tooling for various operations was listed in the Operations & Service Manuals. If GE provided the unit, it would have been in Vol. III, the Service manual.

And, GE also used to provide many of the tools for maintenance outages with a new unit--though most were lost or used for other purposes (I once saw the generator rotor skid plate cut up and used for compartment sealing "flashing"... that was a USD7,000.00 piece of sheetmetal used where a USD50.00 piece of sheetmetal would have sufficed).

I think the most "specialized" piece of tooling would be the rotor lifting beam--but good riggers can make just about anything work, or can fashion a beam from the proper materials. The guide pins could also be easily fashioned from bar stock, and bottle jacks are bottle jacks--nothing special.

Hope this helps!
