Modbus ASCII and Modbus RTU are composed of messages which contain the same information. The ASCII version sends the message as ascii characters representing the hex bytes as a string. i.e 4 byte message composed of binary 0 1 2 3 is sent as ascii 00010203. The RTU version sends the same information but in binary, thereby using half as many bytes.
