I need information regarding 2D Datamatrix standards.

I need information on the way that barcodes,OCR and 2D barcodes store information. I need to know the pros and cons of each system and the security functions built into each of these.
I would like information on the readers (scanners AND/OR cameras)and the way they read the different codes and also the way they can be implemented into control system
