Can I use 230 Vac operated Solenoid valve in bio-gas plant or are 24VDC operated valves more suitable from a safety point of view?

 

Hi, I work in Class 1 Div II situations all the time.

Either voltage can cause an explosion if not installed properly. You need to specify coils that are approved for the hazardous zone you are working in, e.g. Class 1 Zone II, and wire them accordingly. 24 VDC is safer shock-wise and easier to limit the potential short circuit power. (1/2 amp at 24 V is a lot less destructive than 1/2 Amp at 230).
