ABB ACS 880 VFD , GATE DRIVER BOARD FAILURE

Hello Friends,

We are having problem with ABB ACS 880-04-650A-3 VFD , showing short circuit fault 2340. Even after isolating the power cables the fault was still persisting. So we opened the VFD drive for fault trouble shooting and we found that the Gate driver board BGDR-01C had a flash on its card and we did not found any other problem. So, we replaced the Gate driver board and started, again the same problem is coming and again gate driver board failed. Kindly suggest how to trouble shoot this problem and what are the possible causes of the problem.

Thank you

Is source of supply grounded (earthed) ? If so is source of supply 3ph, 4-wire Wye? Or something called a 3-ph, High-Leg, having a 3-winding Delta transformer, but, one of the 3-windings is center-tapped to ground (earth) ?

Also check Board mfg serial numbers. Once had similar problem with 4 failures at time of commissioning. They weren't ABB, but another mfg reputed to be one of the the best!
I found that the SN # happened to be in sequence, and it turned out the Batch was faulty!

Motor Cable is completely disconnected. Still we are getting the same fault.
Balakrishna,

Can you tell us if you are getting warning message or error message ?

Also i suggest you to look on this post , it is saying that winding resistance values of the motor ( need to be checked) may be changed ??
https://forum-controlsystems.abb.com/20200183/ACS880-motor-failures-fault-2340

But you stated that motor cables have been disconnected and still get the fault.

So one could think that at least one IGBT leg can be shortcircuited .....

Did you try to reset the fault to clear it ?? or you did it and it still dispalyin the same error/fault message?
Is there another warning message in the fault history?

Also i suggest you after have read on the ACS800ABB standard manual TO TRY this procedure explained in it:

The INT SC INFO Word includes information on the location of the SHORT CIRCUIT
fault (see 03.05 FAULT WORD 1 and chapter Fault tracing).

You should be able to have a kind of fault tracing history . It is a tool for the troubleshooting.

As there is two (2340 error message ) I strongly advise you to check if the error message can be related to this :
SC INV xx y
(2340)
3.05 FW 1 bit 0, 4.01
and 4.02
Short circuit in inverter unit of several parallel
connected inverter modules. xx (1...12) refers
to inverter module number and y refers to
phase (U, V, W).
Check motor and motor cable.
Check power semiconductors

SHORT CIRC
(2340)
3.05 FW 1 bit 0 and
4.02
Short-circuit in motor cable(s) or motor Check motor and motor cable.
Check there are no power factor correction
capacitors or surge absorbers in motor cable.
Output bridge of converter unit is faulty. Contact ABB representative.

In other document it is stated that:

0004 SHORT CIRCUIT
(0x2340)
Short-circuit in motor cable(s)
or motor
Check motor and motor cable.
Check there are no power factor
correction capacitors or surge absorbers
in motor cable.
Check the fault logger for a fault code
extension. See appropriate actions for
each extension below.

Last thing that i can add , look at these video ( i guess it is in urdu/hindi) it may be an help:
1-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARG2Sv_l5ww
2-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXociqSTdOg

Second one seems to be useful for troubleshooting.

Iam pretty Surely that this can help ,
