We are looking to upgrade an ABB PLC system consisting of Sattcon PLCs (31-10 & 31-50), keeping the existing hardware but getting the signals to new S7-400 hardware.
We know that the ABB side does have a ControlNet adaptor but are awaiting a response from Siemens on the S7400 side.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions of getting the data from the exisitng ABB PLCs to the proposed new S7400 PLC for viewing in WinCC?

Thanks in Advance

We are also looking to upgrade 35kV power station with SCADA using PLC connecting to Electric Power A1700 of ABB. We intend to use PLC S7-300 of Siemens. However, A1700 uses communication standard unsuitable with S7-300. So we may had better use PLC of ABB. As we know PLC ABB uses Profibus-DP communication standard. That mean PLC ABB can connect to PLC S7-300. So the answer to you is You can use PLC S7-300 to upgrade an ABB PLC system. And we also use ABB PLC to control and S7-300 to transmit signal from our system. What do you think about that? Give me some advices. Thanks a lot and good luck!

Hi Jamie!

Sattcon was developed at Satt Control in Malmo in Sweden. There is another company that has developed a Profibus-DP card thats fits into Sattcon rack. You just replace the old CPU with this card to get a DP slave with all the excisting I/O. See http://www.elektroautomatik.se and click on "PBI-kortet". The price is around 2000 euro/card.

Good luck! // Magnus
