Alias address in a PLC and modbus addressing.

How different is the alias address generated in a PLC, SPECIFICALLY Triconex TMR V 4.0, from that of the Modbus address generated in communication with a DCS system? Question might seem a tad trivial, but my doubts still persist.

Is there some specific function to be called in order to enable modbus writings on read/write tagnames?
