I'm currently using the ADAM-6017 Module by Advantech to read Analog I/O signals over a MODBUS TCP/IP connection.

Does anyone know of a good substitute device for the ADAM-6017 Module for reading Analog I/O signals over a TCP connection?

Most of the independent I/O vendors would have something available, but usually these are in I/O "racks" rather than single blocks, and they are usually a lot more expensive. I think you need to provide more details as to what you are looking for (number and type of I/O, whether these should be in a rack or in individual blocks, etc.).

There is a list of companies on the Modbus web site which you can use for your search: (http://www.modbus.org/companies.php). Acromag makes some "similar" individual modules, but I can't make a recommendation as I haven't used them.

Watch out for things like sampling rate, addressing limitations, configuration defaults, etc. I've used some Adam 6000 modules, and had no complaints about them.

Since you are looking for an alternative, then consider ICP DAS's DA modules, for example, the I-7017R combined with the I-7188E1 Ethernet controller w/ WEB Server function. (http://www.icpdas-usa.com/i_7017_c_f_r_rc.html)

These modules come with Free EZ Data Logger Software, which allows you to export database trends from I/O channels to an Excel file. The RS485 network connection allows you to "daisy-chain" remote data acquisition modules. The 7188 controllers are also available with the ModBus/TCP firmware.

I'm looking for alternatives because the MODBUS TCP/IP implementation on the ADAM-6017 modules do not support TCP/IP options under UNIX/LINUX OS. Therefore, TCP/IP options must be turned off on the OS for me to communicate with the ADAM modules.

Given that I'm using the modules from 2004, Advantech might have recently upgraded the firmware to make it compatible...

 

Try the ASCII commands over UDP. These are documented in detail, and are easy to use.

However, I'm not sure what you mean by "MODBUS TCP/IP implementation on the ADAM-6017 modules do not support TCP/IP options under UNIX/LINUX OS". Modbus is Modbus. The originating OS is irrelevant to the module. You might not want to use Advantech's supplied Modbus code in your application, but there are plenty of other free Modbus/TCP drivers available for Linux.

Can we implement Modbus serial protocol with 7188D, and how differently can we use 7188D?

Since you would like to implement ModBus into your current configuration, then I suggest considering the I-7188EXD-MTCP controller, which has loaded the default ModBus TCP firmware. http://www.icpdas-usa.com/products.php?PID=460 You can now convert multiple ModBus/RTU serial devices to a single ModBus/TCP connection. The ModBus Utility configuration software, is included with the controller, and you can integrate remote serial slave devices by accessing them through a virtual COM port technique.
