In nuclear power station the ASDV maintains the main steam header pressure during turbine trip or load throw-off beyond bypass control, as nuclear reactor tripping or load reduction takes time.

If any manufacturer designs or develops ASDV to run a nuclear power station running safely without adequate main steam pressure rise, may discuss the product. The ASDV releases upto 100% power to the atmosphere from 160 bar to atmospheric pressure. It produces huge noise to be tackled with proper silencer design. The valve may be on/off or modulating. Modulating is prefered to economize the heat loss.
