I am searching for a autoscaling citcuit which we use in digital multimeters so that multimeter adjust itself according to the range of input signal.

autoscaling circuit are generally based on variable gain differential inputs op. amp.

Usually done in firmware but a good hardware analogy would be a pair of n-bit digital comparators. When the count is equal to full scale range up. When the count is lower than the next lower full scale range down. This would be the absolute count ie regardless of sign.
