I am working as electrical engineer for a railway project and i would like to know the backup protections required for medium voltage AC variable speed drives.
I am planning to introduce in a big way use of medium voltage VVVF drives for pumps, compressors and ID fans etc. The range of the drives is from 10KW to 300KW.
I would like to know the standard backup protection, since these drives generate harmonics. What are the harmonic filters available so that when the system is working on generator there will be minimum effect on the generator?
