Bently Nevada Proximity Sensors

Hi to all,

I've worked today on two radial B-N proximity sensors (X,Y). With changing their gaps to the shaft we had almost 9.5V on proximitor output.

My supervisor says output voltage MUST be within 9.5-10V. But I think that's not true.

I know for they change 7.87V per 1mm.

I wanna know how much is their limits? (I believe 8-18V)

And how much alarm and trip limits?

Typically B-N (and other manufacturers) proximity / eddy current probes have a linear range, at a nominal -24 Vdc supply voltage, of around -2 to -20 Vdc. Typically probes are supplied with a calibration sheet which shows the actual working range for your specific probes (although this tends to be less critical in a vibration or speed measurement application).

The guidance given by your supervisor sounds about right to me. In a vibration application, the probe needs to be gapped so it is mid range so that the probe can measure shaft movement both towards the probe and away from it. By gapping the probe at 9.5 to 10 V you will get a vibration range of at least +/- 1mm.

Thank U PeterM for your reply.

Do you mean that sensor measure the gap between it and shaft (which is done peak to peak) by presuming a point as zero and have a positive and negative side?

I know this happen in axial displacement measurement by these sensors.
Now my question is how much is shaft movement in radial and again how much is the alarm and trip limits?

You should talk to your mechanical engineer, rotating machine specialist or the machine manufacturer for vibration alarm and trip setpoints.
