Does anyone know of a board level cell phone that can be built into devices for remote, wireless montoring?

What you're looking for is called a CDPD modem. I am using them in remote locations for alarm and data transmission and also for remote
control.

You may be able to use a nice cheap 5110. It will depend on what sort of monitoring you want to do. I am currently bridging our factory
network to our ehternet network and writing software to access OMRONs 'Fins Gateway' via its socket proxy. This will allow me to have a
cellphone at our server (Linux) to SMS alarms to myself and maintenence staff.

 

Check out the Ericsson GM25 modules. They're intended for board-level integration. You only have to implement the CMOS/TTL converter (so
that you have RS-232 levels for communication) and the power supply. Check their website at

I've tried the GM25, but off-board, with an adapter that does the two things I've stated above.
