we have this boiler built around 35yrs ago and still working on its BMCR. During our operation we experienced a huge drop of pressure from its drum to superheater for about 70-80psig. May I ask if what is the probable cause of this?

Safety valves on drum is set higher than superheater safety valve and no leaks on the system.

Boiler specs:
type: water tube
capacity: 300kpph
pressure: 300psig
usage: power for steam turbines
location: Philippines
last time repaired: 2016- re tubing of bank tubes
control system: manual and plc

Please check whether the superheater exit NRV is stuck and creating high pressure drop. If your superheater outlet valves are full open, there cannot be any other restriction.

In addition to the previous reply....

1. How many PTs are there at SH?
2. Tell us the pressure at drum, SH and
steam header at any instance of time.

I doubt your SH PT may need calibration.
