“Instrumentation for Process Measurement and Control 3rd Edition” by Norman A. Anderson, Chilton Company, Radnor PA ISBN 0-8019-6766-x This was originally published in the 1960’s, so it’s not a PLC book, but, it’s a great reference for anything and everything that a PLC could possibly hope to connect to!!
ISA published several years ago (1992) in its PGS (Practical Guide Series) a book called “Fundamentals of Industrial Control”, edited by C. Albert and D. Coggan. A revision is now underway. It’s a big blue brick (don’t carry it far) containing a lot of useful overview information. ISA Montreal Section uses it for an introductory instrumentation and control course they jointly sponsor with McGill University.

The book’s publisher has changed. I believe this is available through Reston publishing. It is an excellent text for process control directed toward both instrument technicians and starting or even practicing engineers.
Search for Straight Line Controls and David St. Clair. Great book/primer for 12 bucks!!

> What book(s), if any, would you recommend as a good reference for industral control.
I have a new publication out on PLC's programming and the SLC500 controller that covers the subject for someone new to the field. The ISDN number is 0-13-0966208-2 by Prentice Hall. You can see a review by going to www.davegeller.com
