electrical engineer

hi,

we used to make gen-sets. in order to decrease the fuel consumption we planed to run the engine at low speed. Coz we don't want change the lower rated engine for lower loads some reasons and load variation is also not so much. here the engine is coupled to a 2 pole capacitor excited brush less alternator.

my question is can i run this alternator with low speed for lower loads? will it make any damages to excitation or stater winding? please let me know.

here the gen set is not coupled to any grid, it is directly connected to load.

Engineer...

Are you referring to an Induction-Generator? Such a generator would require capacitors if it was in operation while isolated from a source of Reactive VAr.
