If I cannot find a 2.5uf runcap, 440V, can I use a 3uf 370V for an A/C fan? The comp cap is 35uf@370v? i.e., how far over in cap can I go without damage?
it will not damage anything in the motor except proformance, the change in cap will change the characteristics of the motor. you may experience trouble running under load. I would suggest that you use multiple caps to achieve the correct uf. always remember that caps are the oppisite of a resistor when put in parralell they add, when in series they divide
therefore two 1.5uf caps in parralel is 3uf, and two 6uf caps in series is 3uf
