Capacitor Voltage Transformers (CVT)

In EHV Transmission applications, Capacitor Voltage Transformer (CVT) is generally used even in GIS. Why is normal Electro-magnetic type Potential Tranformer (PT) not used? Is there any specific reason other than cost and PLC compatability? Please give some guidelines.

Cost is not proportional to voltage. Instead its quite disproportionate!

Hi there...

Of course there is another reason... VT is generally used for voltage levels up to the 63 kv, and for higher, you should apply CVT. It'll divide voltage levels between capacitors.

Take care...
