dear friend,

i faced frequently problem in capacitance type level transmitter with rope that is installed on sulfur storage pit. when i pulled out and calibrate in other sump/pit and performed zero and span calibration it was responding correctly. but when i installed in sulfur pit its given wrong level indication means minus reading or continues variation. Even i replaced the transmitter with new one. but its same behavior.

please give me tips to solve this problem.
Transmitter manufacture: Endress Hauser
Model: FMP151

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

1. Make sure the probes are not touching any conductive materials at the bottom of the pit (e.g. the heating coils or any other conductive sludge)

2. Perform a test of transmitter's functionality using a water sump.

what is the rope for?

their web site only shows a rod type electrode for this model.

have you considered contacting the manufacturer?

I think FMP51 is correct, instead FMP151.
for this type you could choose rod or rope or coax probe.

If the calibration medium is different than the measured pit contents then your calibration will be off unless both the calibration medium and the pit contents have the same dielectric constant. Also, If you check the probe in water it will read differently as well if the DK is different that the pit contents, so that test may not give you any useful information.
