Carbon Steel or Chrome Moly?

Hi,

How do Carbon Steel and Chrome Moly compare with each other in the context of selecting body material for a level gauge to be installed externally--for boiler drum level measurement? Any previous experiences with both materials?

Most boiler tubes themselves are chrome moly. This ought to give you a clue. Carbon steel will rust and tuberculate internally, and hot water is, or can be, corrosive. Chrome moly is stronger and more corrosion resistant.
