Cascading PID controllers for motion control

Usually one PID controller is used for position control. In my project, I used two. The outer loop is a P(I)D controller. The inner loop is a PI
controller which can improve the servo dynamics of the system.
I want to justify my method. Anybody knows any paper talking about such kind of PID application?
