Does anyone out there know of an available ActiveX control for communicating to a Chromalox 3204 temperature controller? This particular controller uses the MODBUS protocol.

you might try www.applicom-int.com. applicom makes a smart modbus card on isa or pci bus than can act as both a master and slave. data is presented to the pc application via opc, dde, or activex.

Get a modicon PLC ActiveX like the one from Cimquest. Configure it to use the serial port.
The data in the controller will appear in registers, ie:
40001, 40002, .... and so on.
