Dear All,

I am planning to replace an existing installation of moscad rtu (20 yr old). We have three stations, which are connected via VHF radio, using the MDLC protocol. The Rx/Tx is programmed at an interval of 10 min.

We have received proposal ranging from replacement with a newer rtu to new PLC based system. Some of the vendor have proposed to use TCP/IP network to communicate between the locations. We prefer to keep the existing radio setup.

My question is whether it is possible to use the TCP/IP link over the radio? Which companies specialise in making modems etc for such applications?

We would like to have more information so that we can evaluate the proposed systems more thoroughly.

Best Regards,

Dlink has a range of ethernet radios which includes an excellent range of industrial standard units and the price should be around $1K. The VHF radios are unlikely to be capable of comparable bandwidth and running Ethernet over
them would likely be more trouble than it is worth seeing as how appropriate Ethernet radios are so cheap.
