Is it possible establish communication with PLCs via serial port when the
notebook doesn't have a serial port, but only a PS/2 port ?

Thanks.

No.

PS/2 is not an rs-232 based communication. If you have a USB port, you may
have a slim chance of getting it to work. Best bet is to go buy a notebook
with "real" ports on it.

yes, the serial com only got 3 point, TX, RX, GND pin2,3,5, 2 and 3 are swapped, 5 going to seven,
the rest segnal should common,
or easy way is to use break out box

I didn't know you could get a notebook that absolutely didn't have a serial port!

Or is it that the one it does have is in use?

Yes, Rufus, believe it or not, many laptop manufacturers feel that we no longer need a serial port. I guess they think that a USB port is all that's needed? I hope that keyboards remain for a while! ;oP

As for Juan's dilemma... I have had good results using a PCMCIA serial card to add a second COM port to my Toshiba. The one I use is made by Socket Communication:

Nope!

Your best bet is a USB to serial convertor, but that does require that your notebook has a USB port, your software can access serial ports with
higher-than-usual-numbers.

Absolutely it is possible to buy a laptop without a serial port - the cheaper Compaqs don't have one! We had to buy a PCMCIA serial port adapter to use our PLC software when someone bought us a laptop without checking the specs well enough.
