Conformance Test Question

One of the times in the Modbus conformance test is a query of starting address 32768, size 1 with an expected exception response 2.

I don't understand why this is? As long as your device's addressing has adequate memory space, why should this be an exception?

For those of us unfamiliar with it, could you explain and/or link to the Modbus Conformance Test?

Assuming you are referring to the Modbus Organization's new test tool and to the .cf file:

If a device has 32768 in the memory space, then for a well behaved device, that particular test would not return an exception. That particular test is not intended to be an absolute boundary test, and 32768 in this case is just an address that could be or not in the address range for the device. The .cf file has to be configured appropriately for the device under test.
