controlling lights in a room using parallel port and vb6

Hi,

I need help,please someone help me. I'm doing a project in our school, it is about controlling the lights in a room using vb6. The computer can turn on/off the lights and there is also manual switches in the room. The computer must detect if the lights are on or off. I have a little knowledge in vb and little in electronics. Anyone there whose knowledgeable in electronics and vb please help me. After finishing this project i'll post details so that it will be helpful to others. Thank you very much!
